Remove background music from a video, keep the voice
Music under a voice-over, or a song playing in the background of a vlog: upload the video and the AI separates the voice from the music. Keep the voice on its own, or turn the music down instead of removing it.

How to remove music from a video
- Step 1
Upload the video (Premium) or its audio
Video files need Premium. On a free plan, export the audio track from your editor or phone (M4A or MP3 is fine) and upload that instead.
- Step 2
Choose Voice only
The AI splits the sound into the voice and the music. Pick Voice only, or move the sliders to keep the music quietly underneath.
- Step 3
Download
Download the voice as MP3 or WAV and lay it back under the picture in your editor. On Premium you can also download the video as MP4 with the new sound in place.
Video or audio: what each plan does
- Premium: upload the video itself. The sound is taken from it and separated, and you can download the result as audio.
- Premium: choose MP4 to download the video with your new sound in place, with the picture copied as it is rather than re-encoded.
- Free plans: upload the audio track on its own (exported from your editor or phone), then put the result back under the picture.
- Every plan: download the voice, the music, or your own mix of the two, as MP3 or WAV.
What gets removed
The separator keeps the voice and moves everything else to the second track. Music is the main thing it is built to remove. Other sounds that are not a voice, such as sound effects or street ambience, usually move to the second track too, so listen to the result before you publish it.
If the music should stay but quieter, keep both tracks and lower the music slider: the voice stays in front and the mood of the scene survives.
When this is the right tool, and when it is not
- Right: a talking-head video, a tutorial or a vlog with music under the speech.
- Right: a clip where a song playing in the background competes with what is being said. Separating it does not change who owns the music, and faint traces of it can remain.
- Not right: a video with several people singing a song, where you want one singer only. It separates voices from music, not one voice from another.
- Not right: noise such as wind or traffic under speech, with no music. For that, use Enhance speech.
Questions about removing music from video
Is there a free way to do this?
Yes: upload the audio track on its own, since every plan takes audio files. Uploading the video file itself needs Premium.
Do I get my video back?
On Premium, yes: choose MP4 when you download, and the original picture comes back with the new sound. If a video's picture cannot be copied into an MP4 file as it is, you are told so and can still download the sound. On every plan you can download the voice as MP3 or WAV and put it back in your editor.
Will it remove sound effects as well?
Often, yes. Anything that is not a voice tends to go to the music track. Keep the music track if you need some of it back, and listen before you publish.
Can I remove the voice and keep the music instead?
Yes. Choose Music only, or download the music track on its own.
Which video files work?
On Premium: MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI and WMV. On every plan: audio files such as WAV, MP3, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG and Opus.
Is it free?
Yes. Without an account you get 3 files up to 3 minutes each, 6 minutes in total, with no sign-up. A free account raises that to 30 minutes per file and 60 minutes of audio per day, still with no card. Premium allows up to 5 hours per file, 10 hours of audio per day, and fair use of 100 hours per 30 days.
What happens to my recording?
It is used only to make your result. It is never used to train models, and both the upload and the result are deleted automatically after 7 days.
