Fix muffled audio and make a voice clearer

A voice that sounds dull, far away or boxed-in is usually buried under the room it was recorded in. Upload the file and the AI strips away the room sound and noise, then brings the voice up to a clear, even level.

How to make a muffled recording clearer

  1. Step 1

    Upload the recording

A voice memo, a call recording or a lecture, as an audio file (video needs Premium). Use the original file if you still have it.

  2. Step 2

    Let the AI clean it

It removes the room sound and noise that make a voice sound distant, and evens out the level.

  3. Step 3

    Set the volume and download

Compare with the original, turn the output up or down if you need to, and download MP3 or WAV.

Why audio sounds muffled

  • The microphone was far away, so it heard the room as much as the voice.
  • The microphone was covered: a phone in a pocket, a lapel mic under a thick jumper.
  • A small, boxy room added a hollow colour to everything.
  • The sound went through a call or a Bluetooth headset, which squeezes it hard.
  • The level was low, so the voice gets lost against the background.

What it fixes, and what it cannot

Most of what people call muffled is really distance and room: the voice is there, but surrounded by reflections and noise. Removing those, and bringing the level up, makes the voice noticeably clearer.

It cannot invent detail that was never captured. If a microphone was wrapped in fabric or the audio passed through a very low-quality call, the clearest result is still limited by what reached the file. Listen and compare before you download.

Record clearer next time

  • Keep the microphone a hand's width or two from your mouth.
  • Record in a room with soft furnishing: curtains, a sofa, a rug.
  • Do not cover the microphone; clip lapel mics on the outside of clothing, away from fabric that rubs.

Questions about muffled audio

Why does my recording sound muffled?

Usually because the microphone was far away in a reflective room, the microphone was covered (a phone in a pocket, a lapel mic under clothing), or the audio passed through a low-quality call or Bluetooth link.

Can AI fix muffled audio?

It removes the room sound and noise that make a voice sound distant and brings the level up to a clear, even volume, which fixes most muffled recordings. It cannot re-create detail that was never recorded.

Will it make my voice louder?

Yes. It brings speech up to an even level, and you can set the output volume yourself before downloading.

Is it free?

Yes. Without an account you get 3 files up to 3 minutes each, 6 minutes in total, with no sign-up. A free account raises that to 30 minutes per file and 60 minutes of audio per day, still with no card. Premium allows up to 5 hours per file, 10 hours of audio per day, and fair use of 100 hours per 30 days.

Which files can I upload, and what do I get back?

On every plan: audio files (WAV, MP3, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG and Opus). Video files (MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI and WMV) need Premium; the sound is taken from the video and you download the cleaned audio. Results download as MP3 or WAV.

What happens to my recording?

It is used only to make your result. It is never used to train models, and both the upload and the result are deleted automatically after 7 days.
