Remove background noise from a video

Filmed something with traffic, wind or a noisy room behind the voice? Video uploads are a Premium feature: upload the video as it is and the AI takes the sound from it, removes the noise and room echo, and gives you clean speech to download. On the free plans, export the audio track first and upload that; the result is the same.

How to clean up the sound of a video

  1. Step 1

Upload the video, or its audio

On Premium, upload the video itself (MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI or WMV). On the free plans, export the audio track from your editor or phone and upload that.

  2. Step 2

    Listen to the result

The sound is cleaned and you can switch between the original and the cleaned version while it plays.

  3. Step 3

    Download the clean audio

Download it as MP3 or WAV, then put it back under the picture in your video editor.

What you get back, by plan

You get the cleaned soundtrack as an audio file, MP3 or WAV, the same length as the video. Any editor, including the ones built into phones, can swap it in: mute the original track, drop the new one in at the start, and the two line up.

On Premium you can upload the video directly. On Premium you can also download the finished video as MP4 with the new sound already in place. Video files need Premium, so on the free plans save the soundtrack as an audio file first. Most editors can export audio only, and on a phone you can share the clip to an app that saves its sound as M4A. No watermark is added to anything, on any plan.

Videos it works well on

  • Talking to camera outdoors, next to a road or in a park
  • Interviews filmed in a café, an office or a hall
  • Lectures, talks and webinars recorded on a laptop
  • Screen recordings with a fan or keyboard under the voice
  • Phone clips from events, where the room is loud and echoey

If the noise is wind

Wind on outdoor video is a low, buffeting rumble that overlaps the voice, and a simple low-cut filter thins the voice without removing the gusts. The same model handles it; the wind noise page explains what to expect.

Questions about video

Do I get my video back, or just the audio?

You download the cleaned audio, as MP3 or WAV, ready to drop under the picture in any editor. On Premium you can also choose MP4 and download the original picture with the cleaned sound in place. Uploading the video itself needs Premium.

Is there a watermark?

No. Nothing is added to your audio on any plan.

Which video formats work?

On Premium: MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI and WMV. On every plan you can upload the audio instead, as WAV, MP3, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG or Opus.

Will the audio still line up with the picture?

Yes. The cleaned audio has the same length as the original soundtrack, so it lines up when you place it at the start of the clip.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. It runs in the browser, so open the page on your phone, choose the file (a voice memo, for example) and download the result there. Nothing to install.

Is it free?

Yes. Without an account you get 3 files up to 3 minutes each, 6 minutes in total, with no sign-up. A free account raises that to 30 minutes per file and 60 minutes of audio per day, still with no card. Premium allows up to 5 hours per file, 10 hours of audio per day, and fair use of 100 hours per 30 days.

What happens to my recording?

It is used only to make your result. It is never used to train models, and both the upload and the result are deleted automatically after 7 days.
