Isolate a voice from music and background noise

Need just the voice? If music is playing behind it, Separate music splits the recording into the voice and the music. If the problem is noise, wind or echo, Enhance speech removes it. Both take audio files on every plan, and video files on Premium.

The music is gone and the voice is left on its own.

How to isolate a voice

  1. Step 1

    Pick the right tool

Music behind the voice: use Separate music, right on this page. Noise, wind or echo behind the voice: use Enhance speech.

  2. Step 2

    Upload and listen

Separate music gives you two tracks, the voice and the music. Slide between them while it plays.

  3. Step 3

    Download the voice

Download the voice on its own, the music on its own, or your own mix of the two, as MP3 or WAV.

Music or noise: which tool?

Music and noise are different problems. Music has its own melody and rhythm, so Separate music models it as a second track and lifts it away from the voice; you can keep it, drop it or mix it back in at any level.

Noise is everything else: traffic, fans, wind, the echo of a room. Enhance speech is trained for that. It keeps the voice, removes the rest in one pass and evens out the level.

  • Background music in a vlog, a reel or a talk: Separate music.
  • A street interview, a windy beach, a café: Enhance speech.
  • Both at once: separate first, then run the voice track through Enhance speech.

What to expect

Most clips come out clean. Where the music is loud and sits right on top of the voice, traces of one can remain in the other. You hear the result before downloading, so you can decide whether it is good enough for your use.

A note on rights

Removing music from a clip does not change who owns the rest of it. Use recordings you made or have permission to use.

Questions about isolating a voice

How do I remove background music but keep the voice?

Upload the file to Separate music. You get two tracks, the voice and the music, and can download the voice on its own.

Which tool should I use, Enhance speech or Separate music?

If the problem is music, use Separate music. If it is noise, wind or room echo, use Enhance speech.

Can I upload a video?

On Premium, yes: the sound is taken from the video and you download the voice and music as audio. On the free plans, export the audio track from your editor or phone first and upload that.

Will the voice sound perfect?

Usually clean, but where music and voice overlap heavily some traces can remain. You can listen before downloading.

Is it free?

Yes. Without an account you get 3 files up to 3 minutes each, 6 minutes in total, with no sign-up. A free account raises that to 30 minutes per file and 60 minutes of audio per day, still with no card. Premium allows up to 5 hours per file, 10 hours of audio per day, and fair use of 100 hours per 30 days.

What happens to my recording?

It is used only to make your result. It is never used to train models, and both the upload and the result are deleted automatically after 7 days.
