An Auphonic alternative for cleaning up speech

Auphonic is an audio post-production service for podcasters and broadcasters, with levelling, loudness targets, noise and reverb reduction, cutting and transcripts. If what you need is clear, even speech from a noisy or echoey recording, this web tool does that in one pass. Every fact about Auphonic below is dated and sourced.

Before and after

DEMO · Two-voice podcast: host on a decent mic, guest on a laptop in an echoey room

0:00 / 0:17

Both voices cleaned up and brought to an even level.

How to compare the two yourself

  1. Step 1

    Pick one recording

Use a real episode or interview, ideally one with the noise or echo you usually have.

  2. Step 2

    Run it through both

Upload it here and in Auphonic, each with its default settings.

  3. Step 3

    Listen at the same point

Here you can switch between the original and the result while it plays. Judge on your own speakers or headphones.

Where the two differ

Auphonic is a production pipeline: it levels speakers and music, normalises to the loudness target you choose, reduces noise, reverb and breaths by an amount you set, can cut silences and filler words, transcribes, mixes several tracks, and publishes to podcast hosts. It is used through the web, an API and a command-line tool.

InverseAI Podcast does one job: it rebuilds the voice without the noise and room echo around it, and brings it up to an even, broadcast-loud level, with no settings to choose. You hear the result against the original before you download it. It also has a separate tool for pulling a voice away from music.

When Auphonic may suit you better

  • You want to choose loudness targets, or control how much noise and reverb is removed.
  • You record several tracks and want an automatic mixdown.
  • You want transcripts, chapters, cutting of filler words, or publishing to your podcast host.
  • You automate production through an API or watch folders.

When InverseAI Podcast may suit you better

  • Your main problem is a noisy or echoey room, and you want it fixed in one step.
  • You want to try straight away: without an account you get 3 files up to 3 minutes each, 6 minutes in total, with no sign-up.
  • You want to hear the result against the original, at the same point, before downloading.
  • Your episodes are long: Premium takes up to 5 hours per file, 10 hours of audio per day, and fair use of 100 hours per 30 days.

Questions

Is InverseAI Podcast affiliated with Auphonic?

No. InverseAI Podcast is an independent product from Inverse.AI and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Auphonic or its owner. Auphonic is a trademark of its owner, named here only to describe the comparison.

Do I need an account to try it?

No: without an account you get 3 files up to 3 minutes each, 6 minutes in total, with no sign-up.

Does it set loudness like Auphonic?

It brings speech up to an even, broadcast-loud level automatically. You can set the output volume before you download, but there is no choice of loudness standard or true-peak target.

Can it process several tracks or make transcripts?

No. It processes one file at a time on the free plans and does not transcribe. Recording, transcripts and editing are being built and are not available yet.

How does the sound compare with Auphonic?

That depends on the recording, so we do not claim it. Run the same file through both and listen.

Is it free?

Yes. Without an account you get 3 files up to 3 minutes each, 6 minutes in total, with no sign-up. A free account raises that to 30 minutes per file and 60 minutes of audio per day, still with no card. Premium allows up to 5 hours per file, 10 hours of audio per day, and fair use of 100 hours per 30 days.

Which files can I upload, and what do I get back?

On every plan: audio files (WAV, MP3, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG and Opus). Video files (MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI and WMV) need Premium; the sound is taken from the video and you download the cleaned audio. Results download as MP3 or WAV.

What happens to my recording?

It is used only to make your result. It is never used to train models, and both the upload and the result are deleted automatically after 7 days.
